Jask are the perfect supplier…

Jask are the perfect supplier, I really couldn’t ask for any improvement in service or standards. Never once in the last 7 years have they let me down, everything has always been delivered exactly when they said it would be and the creativity of designs has always been excellent. They have always been willing to ‘go the extra mile’ to meet last minute deadlines, even delivering to exhibition stands when necessary. Plus, in the various costing exercises I have done over the years they have always been extremely competitive.

Twitter Tip: General Twitter tips

jasktuesdaytwittertipJask group are introducing a new feature called Jask Twitter Tip

What we will be doing every Tuesday is focusing on one great Twitter tip we think you should integrate into your social media strategy.

Today’s Jask Twitter Tip Tuesday: General Twitter tips

Reach out

Follow other people, have conversations, ask questions and retweet other users’ relevant tweets; this will increase awareness of your Twitter activity and help you attract a following.

Be interested and you will be interesting

Take time to read other people’s tweets – consider what you like and don’t like about their Twitter feeds. It will inspire you and help to inform your own approach.

Be yourself

Twitter is a very immediate, transparent medium. It’s almost impossible to pretend to be what you’re not. Be authentic and genuine – personally and on behalf of your brand.

Focus on relevance

Follow and engage with people/organisations you share interests, missions or values with (find them by checking relevant topics using tools like Twitter Search, Monitter, Samepoint, TweetDeck etc.). Remember, with followers, quality is more important than quantity.

Make every 140 characters count

Use URL shorteners, like bit.ly, tinyurl or give.to, so you can include links without using up too many characters. Include key words and hashtags that will catch your audience’s attention and give them a reason to click on your link.

Always integrate

Twitter will provide the most value to your organization when used in conjunction with other social media – Flickr, YouTube, blogs, Facebook etc. – your own website, any microsites you may have, and other websites, online forums and communities, so share content/links in your tweets.

Check back every week for ‘Jask Twitter Tip Tuesday’ for some more great Twitter tips we think you will find useful.

25 years ago the first ever internet domain is registered

symbolicsMany people have their own interpretation of the internet but if we had to describe the internet, we would describe it s as an explosion of a new youthful beast. However, for those that remember, 25 years ago the first internet domain was registered and it will almost bring a tear to the eye when you think the internet was only accessible using a 14.4k modem through an ISP that charged by the minute.

You may find this hard to believe but it wasn’t ‘www.internet.com’ or ‘www.dot.com’ that was purchased when the internet was born, instead it was an off the all domain symbolics.com. Nobody knows why this particular domain name was purchased back in March 1985 but it holds a very special place in history. Something even harder to believe is that the original purchaser has continued to pay in order to retain the domain name for the last 25 years. The last quarter century has seen the internet grow in leaps and bounds beyond all imagination and literally millions of domains are now registered with thousands more been added all the time.

For nostalgia, here is a list of the top 25 early domain name registrations:

Design Tips to Learn From Apple – #4 Attention to detail

4-jaskSmallStuffWhen it comes to design detail, Apple are the masters. Apple pays attention to every single detail when designing. Take a look at their site, one word springs to mind – perfection.

Everything minor or major is finessed to perfection. Apple don’t believe in the saying ‘No one will notice’. They believe in spending huge amounts of time on the tiniest of details as they know this is what makes them stand out in the crowd for design.

Apple doesn’t buy into the small stuff argument. The homepage of Microsoft Office displayed the following social media icons.

AD-logos

Just looking at them makes you cringe. This is an example of what you will never find on the Apple site. It is apparent the graphics have been created quickly making them look poor to the naked eye.

Apple would never in a million years use poorly created graphics on their site, let alone on a product landing page.

So Design tip four from Apple is pay attention to detail. Take into account the small things.

Through to the finals in National Design Awards

We’re a happy bunch over here at Jask, we’ve just been nominated for not one, but two awards at the 2012 national Recommended Agencies Register awards.

RAR matters because it’s an independent measure of a marketing agency’s performance based on information independently collated from clients. It’s great to know that our clients appreciate all our efforts and that their ratings have led us to be deemed one of the best agencies in the country.

Wish us luck!

Design Tips to Learn From Apple – #3 Contrast is key

Jask ContrastYou cannot fault Apple on anything when it comes to product shots of their products.  The key factor that makes those graphic design shots look amazing is the simple environment that  is used by Apple to create the shots.

The human brain loves contrast which is why when we see a spectacular mountain view or a serene sunset we just stop and stare. When we see a shiny new black iPad on a simple white background we do the same thing we stop and stare and go ‘oooooohhhh’. Apple use simplicity when creating product shots by applying selective contrast in every design they create. When using contrast a few pointers to note – look for the best opportunities where you can use contrast with colour, font thickness, size and anything else that you have to work with.

Apple doesn’t just apply contrast to their product shots. Take a moment and look at the picture below. What immediately jumps out for you? For us it is the big blue download button. Our attention immediately focuses on the button. Don’t take our word for it. Have a browse on the Apple website. Every time Apple want you to buy something or download something the big bright blue button is used as it instantly gets your attention.

So Design tip three from Apple is make good use of conrtast. Make sure the shot is eye catching.
